Creative Writing
Many writers, painters, sculptors, musicians and poets have been inspired by the way of life and gentle countryside of Paros, and some live here for all or part of the year. Stay with us and be inspired.

Swimming and pooling
Paros is a small island, with many small, always sandy, shallow beaches and clear water. Regardless of wind direction you will always find a beach that is protected, regardless of season you will always find a beach that is only for you. The water is warm for generally, from May to October.
Surfing
Windsurfing and Kite-surfing are quite terrific on Paros and most popular at Santa Maria, Golden Beach or Punta Beach.
Unique weather conditions make Paros a haven for windsurfers every year, with the island being recognised as one of the three, Professional Windsurfers Association sites in the world, and regularly hosting the World Cup.
For 2009, from 24th of April to 2nd of May, in New Golden Beach will host the European World Cup windsurfing championship.

Diving
If you would like to explore the beautiful blue waters of the Aegean Sea, while vacationing on Paros we suggest taking some lessons by the various athletic clubs and schools throughout the island, offering tuition and equipment hire for scuba diving, sailing, snorkelling, paragliding and waterskiing.
Fishing
Paros Island has a great tradition of fishing, with one of the largest fishing fleets in the Aegean Sea region. The island is the ideal destination for amateur, as well as more serious fishing aficionados. The best fishing spots are on the south-western and south-eastern coast of Paros. Ambelas is a perfect spot. Just ask the professional fishermen for tips.

Walking
Walk and discover the wonderful scenery off the beaten track whilst travelling from village to village different faces of Paros through a close meet with its nature and the magnificent countryside of our island.
Enjoy these routes: |
| • |
Route from Ambelas to Santa Maria or from Ambelas to Molos, Marmara, a mostly coastal walk. |
| • |
The Byzantine path, αν ancient road which starts from the village of Lefkes, in good condition, and ends in the village of Prodromos. It’s a very beautiful route and it is good to take it early in the morning or before the sunset. |
| • |
Afkoulaki, in Marpissa. It is one of the most beautiful marks of Paros. Walk up to the spring where even during summer there is running water. As you are coming from the road of Prodromos, just before the football field of Marpissa there is a sign which shows direction towards Monastery of Saint George and Afkoulaki. |
| • |
The monastery of Agios Antonios in Kefalos, in Marpissa, to admire from up there the wonderful panoramic view of the three villages of Marmara, Prodromos, Marpissa and Piso Livadi. You can also get up to the water tank by car and then go up on foot to the monastery. During the summer months it is open only during morning hours. |
| • |
Visit the famous marble quarries at Marathi which have produced the raw material for some of the finest sculptures of ancient Greece including the famous Hermes of Praxitelous and the Venus de Milo whose current home is the Louvre Museum in Paris The last slabs to be mined here in the 19th century were used for the tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte .The quarry is easily located. It's approximately 3 miles outside of Parikia, on the right-hand side of the main road. It consists of two abandoned mine shafts that sink down about 100m down into a dark abyss. The shafts, being both wide and tall, can be easily explored on foot with no crouching required. I would recommend taking a torch. The remnants of the winch buildings are also there to be explored and if you nip back up the path and over the road, there are further remains of machinery and buildings that were used to process the marble. |
| • |
The valley of the “Butterflies, at Petaloudes, 4km south-west of Paroikia. If you're visiting Paros between May and September walk among millions of brightly coloured tiger moths smother the valley's dense foliage. Early morning or early evening is the best time to visit if you want to see any activity because the moths remain dormant during the fierce heat of the day. |
| • |
The lighthouse, behind Monastiri Beach at Koraka, the northern end of Paros. A beautiful route, from Naoussa towards Kolimbithres and Monastery. |
| • |
The Monastery of Saint George in Lagada, above the village of Aspro Horio. |
Jogging
Jogging or go for a run, the roads are good and the paths are safe.
Every year in late June or July, there is a Paros "marathon" (actually 54km around the island) visitors are very welcome.
Horse Riding
In the area of Ambelas you can find horse riding lessons for all ages. The countryside of the island is ideal for exploring on horseback in mountainous and sea-side areas.
Cycling
You can hire basic bikes and as you travel you will see tantalising glimpses of village life, beautiful beaches, and on clear day’s phenomenal views of distant islands as well as our beautiful neighbouring islands of Naxos. Ambelas is the closest village from Paros to Naxos, with a great view. A major benefit of having a peripheral coast road circumnavigating the island is easy access to every part of Paros. This enables travellers to discover different places outside the towns and find their own favourite part of the island. It could be a deserted cove, a special tavern, an interesting festival, a small village resort or simply a view that takes your breath away. You can hire basic bikes.
There is always something new to see and our accommodation is never far away.
You will still have plenty of time to spend relaxing at the resort, swimming, or just looking at the stars at night and listening to the silence or going on a great day trip. |
